Scenes of yesteryear
Even the English countryside is vulnerable to that darned credit crunch. People are stealing rhubarbs, chickens, metal, lambs, and hot water tanks. Oil theft has also been reported in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire in an incident which is sure to alarm OPEC.
What with lambs being slaughtered and rabbits beheaded in Germany it seems like being an animal during a credit crunch sucks just as much.
The saddest thing about all this, as one spokesperson of the Berkeley Castle Game and Country fair says, “The days of being able to leave your front door open in the countryside are long gone.” A rude awakening if there ever was one.
