A friend of mine currently traveling round China caught me on Google chat today. I asked him where he was and he said, ‘Chengdu, Sichuan, actually. It’s pretty cool, I mean apart from the earthquake and stuff’ and I told him he was really fucked up and he was like what? What did I say?
That IS fucked up isn’t it?
Bellepoq feels a bit groggy this Saturday morning and feels a little disinterested in the outside world so here is a round-up of today’s top stories as she sees it:
- Blacks in the deep dirty South may challenge GOP dominance there. But what’s the south without the GOP? [NYT]
- Naomi Klein argues fairly convincingly that natural disasters are the greatest challenge to authoritarian regimes and accuses the Burmese junta of ‘laissez-faire ethnic cleansing’. She is slightly far-fetched in questioning how Chinese citizens would react should information of Chinese complicity in blocking the UN from intervening in Burma breach the Great Firewall and reach Chinese citizens. [The Nation]
- Just because Iceland is one of my favourite places on earth. And is now currently being bailed out by the Nordic banks. [IHT]
- A London bus is really the last place I would expect to find love. I’m more likely to find abuse there. The Tube, however, remains a popular matchmaking hotspot.
- And Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong are dating. LIVE STRONG GIRL.
And no sighting of any royals at Mahiki last night. But if there was I’d be all over that shizz.
